It was a last minute decision when we decided to book for a room in Microtel Mall of Asia. If you know me well, I am quite picky with hotels and restaurants. 🙂 Staying in Microtel Mall of Asia never crossed my mind not until the time we had to go to SM Mall of Asia Arena to watch Cirque de Soleil. To avoid the heavy traffic congestion expected after the show, we decided to have a quick staycation by the Manila bay so we booked a room in Microtel Mall of Asia just 3 days in advance.
Microtel Mall of Asia Room Rate
I booked the Sunset View Room for USD 120.00 online inclusive of two buffet breakfasts. The rate is relatively steep given its 3 star-hotel rating. Actually, I also considered the 5-star Sofitel Manila for our spontaneous staycation since it’s rate is just approximately USD 50.00 more than Microtel Mall of Asia. However, due to Sofitel’s farther location from SM MOA Arena, we chose Microtel in the end.
Microtel Mall of Asia Location
I chose this hotel particularly for its strategic and convenient location – just five minutes walk to SM Mall of Asia, SMX and SM MOA Arena. There’s also an hourly shuttle to the mall if you wish not to walk.
Our Sunset View Room in Microtel Mall of Asia
I’m glad I booked a Sunset View Room instead of the Standard City View Room, after all it’s only about USD 10.00 price difference! Although only 25 square meters in size, I find the room smartly laid out with two full double beds and it is quite spacious for 4 people. The room is also spotlessly clean. I strongly recommend the Sunset View Room versus the City View room. The City View rooms face the back of the hotel and the view of untrimmed bushes of the opposite vacant lot might just spoil your vacation.
Our window opens to an expansive view of Manila bay, lovely isn’t it? The view is even more stunning during night time!

The Penthouse in Microtel Mall of Asia
After checking-in, my cousin and I went up to explore the hotel’s penthouse. The penthouse is a bit small but cozy. It was a breezy day so we lounged there for a bit. Come night time, we were happy to see the beautiful fireworks from the nearby Mall of Asia.
Here is another view from the penthouse, this faces the back of the hotel which is basically the view of the hotel’s City View rooms.
See, both SMX and SM MOA Arena are just a stone throw’s away from Microtel Mall of Asia. This hotel will be very convenient for people who will attend trade shows in SMX for multiple days.
The water in the pool is a bit cloudy, so we decided to go to Mall of Asia instead of swimming.
We arrived in the lobby just in time for the shuttle to the Mall, how lucky we are!
Breakfast Buffet in Millie’s Restaurant
Actually, this was my second stay in a Microtel with my first stay in Microtel Baguio more than 5 years back. I was disappointed with the breakfast in Microtel Baguio as it was a controlled buffet with only one rice and one viand per guest.
The quality of breakfast in Millie’s Restaurant inside Microtel Mall of Asia was a nice surprise, leaps and bounds better than its Baguio branch counterpart. The breakfast spread has a nice variety of Filipino cuisine worthy of its P 330.00 (USD 8.00) price tag. The room comes with two free breakfast buffet but since my cousins came over for breakfast, we paid an additional of P 330.00 per person.
Exotic fruits for breakfast – avocados and santol.
In summary, I am quite pleased with my stay in Microtel Mall of Asia. Though this is a no-frills hotel, my stay was quite comfortable with all my basic needs met. If you decide to stay in this hotel, make sure to book the Sunset View room!
