French Concession
From Yu Garden metro line 10 station, Xintiandi in French Concession is just two stops away. We followed the French Concession walking tour from Frommer’s which led us to Fuxing Park. I have to say that French Concession is one of the most beautiful places in Shanghai. Not crowded, the streets are lined with maple trees and the place… [Read more...]
Yu Garden
From our hotel, we took the metro line 2 station to East Nanjing Road then switched to metro line 10. Yu Garden is only one stop away from East Nanjing Road via metro line 10. The Yu Garden complex is a china town within the Chinese city. Unfortunately, it was a let down and it looks like it’s created mainly for tourists.
Shangri-la Pudong Yi Cafe
No one can deny that I’m a super fan of Shangri-la buffets so I decided to celebrate my birthday at Shangri-la Pudong’s Yi Cafe. Shangri-la had a very good promotion at that time – the birthday celebrant can dine in for free. Lucky me!
The buffet spread in Shangri-la’s… [Read more...]
The Bund Strip in One Afternoon
We alighted at metro line 2 East Nanjing Road and walked for 10 minutes to reach The Bund. The weather was perfect with rare blue sky in the city. We strolled along The Bund elevated walkway for about 2 hours mesmerizing the amazing Pudong city skyline. With China’s fast construction boom, believe it or not, the Pudong… [Read more...]
Pudong Riverside Promenade
We alighted at metro line 2 Luijiazui station and arrived in Pudong’s Riverside Promenade after 15 minutes walk. The Riverside Promenade is located in the other side of Huangpu River opposite the Bund. The Bund view at night across the river is really nice with the line of lovely 1920s-1930s European buildings well lit… [Read more...]
Shanghai Hop on Hop Off Bus
We found the Shanghai Hop on Hop Off Bus of City Sightseeing to be a very economical way to explore Shanghai. The 24 hour Shanghai hop on hop off bus ticket costs only RMB 30 (~USD 5) and the bus stops at major Shanghai tourist spots. The price is bang for the buck but expect it to be crowded by locals during weekends.
People’s Park Shanghai
We were very fortunate to be in Shanghai on a Sunday. This means that we’ll be able to witness the weekly matchmaking market at People’s Park. We alighted at People’s Square station along metro line 2. Not far away from the metro stop, we started to see walls of the park plastered with white sheets of… [Read more...]
We stayed at Renaissance Shanghai Zhongshan Park for the next 3 nights using my Marriott rewards points. Spending your Marriott rewards points in China is a perfect way to maximize your points and here are the reasons why.
1. Marriott chain hotels in China and Asia are relatively newer and more luxurious than those in North America. I have stayed at… [Read more...]
Grand Mercure Shanghai Zhongya
Our Accor Advatange Card was about to expire so I decided to avail our free night certificate in Grand Mercure Shanghai Zhongya. I was tossing between Sofitel Hyland in the famous Nanjing Road and Grand Mercure Shanghai but chose Grand Mercure in the end due to better reviews in tripadvisor. We opted to upgrade our… [Read more...]
We arrived at Shanghai Airport in Pudong at 12 midnight. The airport is massive with 200+ departure/arrival gates. It was quite advantageous for us to have arrived in Shanghai Airport in the wee hours of the morning. Immigration queue and baggage claim was pretty fast since the arrival area was quite empty. As usual, we took city travel maps before… [Read more...]
