Having toured around the canals of Thonburi 5 years ago, I have always been mesmerized by the laid back lifestyle of local Thais on the other side of Chao Phraya River. I can still vividly remember our long tail boat passing through wooden houses with children happily swimming to cool off, grandmas with their fishing nets out to catch catfish and local… [Read more...]
When in Bangkok, a roof top bar experience in a 5-star hotel is a must and Red Sky Bar is now my new favorite! Bangkok has always been a good place to find affordable luxuries. Upmarket travel experiences can be had in Bangkok for a fraction of the cost of similar experiences in highly developed countries.

It’s my third time in Bangkok and truly wished that I had known Centara Grand at Central World Hotel way before! I always ended up heading to Central World and Siam Paragon in my previous Bangkok trips for food and shopping. So it really made a lot of sense staying in a hotel right smack in the center of Bangkok’s shopping district this time.… [Read more...]
I recently returned from a 4-day Thailand trip and was very glad that I pushed through with my Bangkok travel plans. It’s good to see with my own eyes that the real situation in Bangkok appears to be not as bad as the one portrayed by the media. In fact, I did not see any army and protesters through out my stay. I felt very safe and even rode a taxi at… [Read more...]
It was our first time in Thailand and we decided to concentrate our 5-day trip in Bangkok. There were plenty of things to do in Bangkok and we’re able to fill up our travel plans quickly. I love Thailand for its culture, the locals’ hospitality, great metro connections and affordable cost of living.
We arrived at Bangkok’s airport in the afternoon and headed for a cab transfer to Urbana Langsuan Hotel in the city. The Bangkok airport was huge. It’s quite comparable to Hong Kong’s Chep Lap Kok airport. Our arrival was uneventful except for the one hour long queue in the immigration. We later came to know that we got to the wrong… [Read more...]
After we crossed out Taling Chan Floating Market experience from our bucket list, we headed to the Bangkok temples Wat Arun and Wat Pho for some Thai cultural immersion in the afternoon.

Our boatman dropped us in Wat Arun right after our tour in Thonburi Canals. People say that Wat Arun is like the sister of Angkor… [Read more...]
We were supposed to visit Grand Palace for the day but made a last minute change to visit Taling Chan Floating Market instead. It was Sunday morning and already on our way to Grand Palace when we learned that Taling Chan Market is only open on weekends. From the Chao Phraya river bus, we immediately alighted at the next pier – Tha Tien pier. We wandered… [Read more...]
From our hotel, we took a cab to Grand Palace. Our agenda for the day was to visit Grand Palace and Wat Phra Keo. Too bad, the guard refused to let us enter because we’re not wearing long pants. We were then instructed to go to the cloth borrowing booth which required us to deposit 100 Baht (~USD 3) per item. All they had were man’s polo shirts… [Read more...]
For our last day in Bangkok, we decided to avail the 1 day BTS tourist pass to visit Jim Thompson House and malls along the train station line. We alighted at National Stadium BTS Station. We found it hard to locate Jim Thompson House since it’s not along the main road but got there in 5 minutes. Thanks to the green signage which pointed us to the right… [Read more...]
